The immediate goal of our street children's help project is to save the lives of the children and youth who live on the streets and to easify their life. We do this through the street patrols. The street patrols also serves as a channel off the street. The street patrols provide for the street children and youth:
Mission Possible's first patrol was launched in Moscow in 1995. We have regular patrols also in Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk and Odessa. The street patrol team consists of 2-4 workers who visit by van certain locations in the city. The patrol keeps records of all children, outings and help given. For example the Moscow patrol reaches in a year 1200-1500 children of which a half attends regularly. The immediate goal of the patrol is to encourage and help the children to return to their homes when there is such a possibility. The patrol
workers try to find the children's families, visit and talk with them,
arrange transportation to home, etc. Baths The baths are arranged in an Epidemic Center run by the city or in our own day cener facilities. In connection with the bath the children receive treatment for skin diseases, lice and itch mites. The patrol takes to the bath also entire homeless families who live on railway stations. There may be very young babies in these families. Some of the children who come to the patrol have not washed themselves and changed clothes for months. Regular baths and treatments significantly improve the children's general state of health. Those children who come to wash themselves regulary usually get rid of their skin diseases. In connection with the bat the children can also have a haircut. After the shower the children receive new clothes. In one, two weeks their old clothes become filthy and infected by skin disease. |
