Help, she is giving birth!

Recently when I was visiting Mission Possible's farm and rehabilitation center at Yaroslavl, Russia, I heard this hilarious and touching story that speaks about how the life of a girl from the streets has made a 180-grade-turn!

Our street patrol found Oxana and her mother a couple of years ago on the streets of Moscow. For many years, alcohol and street had been the whole life for them. The mother and the daughter began to participate in the meals at the patrol car. While Oxana ate her soup, she soaked in the words of the patrol workers: There was hope for her, God could change her life!

Some months later I saw Oxana on the Yaroslavl farm at our drug rehabilitation center. She was like a new girl! The rude ”boyish” behavior was gone. There was a broad smile on her face: ”I have become a Christian, I am a new person!”

This happened three years ago. The former street girl became a worker of the rehabilitation center and she also became in charge of the cowhouse.

Last summer she was on a short visit in Moscow. That’s where she for the first time told about her faith and life change to a larger group of people.

Oxana was traveling on a bus (a small 16-passenger city bus), when her cell phone rang. A distressed rehabilitant was calling from the farm!
- Help! The cow is giving birth! What are we supposed to do?
- Wait, just a couple of minutes and I’ll get off the bus!
- We can’t wait, he is already showing! Don’t hang up! Give instructions! Please!
- I can’t do it here on the bus, it is too embarrassing! You have been present at deliveries, do what you remember! Oxana whispered to the phone, glancing around herself.

- Please, go ahead and help them! she heard a trembling female voice from behind her. – That won’t bother us, said the neighbor who couldn’t have helped hearing the conversation in the bus where the passengers sat densely packed like herrings.

- OK, OK, I’ll help! Hold the leg, now pull out the other one, carefully!

After about five minutes somebody shouted on the phone:
- Hurrah, he came!
- I told you so, it is easy! OK, we are done!

Oxana hang up. Only then did she realize, that the bus had pulled aside and stopped and the driver and all the passengers were sitting motionless and pale from listening to the conversation. Somebody clapped his hands. An elderly lady sighed:
- So young and so competent!

- Well, was it a boy or a girl?
- None, it was a calf!

The bus was filled with unrestrained giggling. Everybody had thought that a baby was being born, because they only had heard Oxana’s’ part of the conversation!
- Yes, a competent young lady!
- Maybe now – but not for a long time ago I was just a street girl and alcoholic... This is how Oxana’s short but touching testimony began.
– God can change anybody, is He was able to change me!

Oxana told her story. The audience listened amazed what God had done in her life.

"I also helped this one to be born!"
