EKATERINBURG

Street patrol and day center

In March 2004, a street patrol was launched in Ekaterinburg, a city of 1,2 million inhabitants on the Eastern side of the Ural mountains. According to the authorities there thousands of neglected children and teenagers living homeless in basements, heating pipe tunnels and other such places. Mission Possible is the only street children's help organizaton in this city.

The patrol visits six locations three times a week and has a contact with hundreds of children and teenagers. App. 40-50 children and youths attend the patrol each time.

The patrol gives the children meals, clothing and medical help. There is also a short "Sunday school" lesson. The age of the children and youth who come to the patrol ranges from 10 to 18.

Twice a week there is a possibility for bath. Our workers also arrange the children's official matters. Some of them would have a right to governmental allowances or a flat.

In February 2005 we started a day center that operates twice a week and offers indoors activities, literacy and other teaching.

Many children have been helped off the street, and drug-addicted youths have been sent to a Christian rehabilitation center. The patrol team actively arranges the official matters of the children and youths, restoring their rights to apartments, allowances and medical care.

The work is led by Natasha and Andrey Ivanov.
